VERY FRUSTRATING

I was so upset this evening. We have some real beautiful parks in Hartford  and I'm not sure people appreciate them enough . I was driving near the arch in Bushnell Park tonight, and I saw a Ford explorer in the Park buried up to its axles in mud tearing up the lawn as it tried to get out pulled by a Friendly's wrecker . An HPD Officer , Car 65, sat in his car, also parked by the Arch, and to the best of my knowledge  doing nothing. Not even call it in for another car to come take care of it

Fortunately I had the cell number for Deputy Chief Rodriguez who  I contacted and he called it in and had an officer there within a couple minutes to document the damage and get the vehicle owners information and insurance information so we aren't on the hook for a large amount of damage to the park.

Hopefully the vehicle owner had insurance to cover their ignorance driving into the water logged park.

Icing on the cake was the police officer who sat by and watched it all and did nothing, threatened to give me a ticket for parking on the sidewalk while I waited for a real cop to show up and do his job. Only in Hartford.  I was incredulous when I asked him if he was serious. He sat and watched a car tear up the park for probably close to a half hour and did nothing, but he was going to give me a ticket for pulling off onto the sidewalk,

Thank you Chief Rodriguez and Officer Murtha, Shame on you Officer Bustamante.

Bustamonte just hasn't been the same since they cancelled Fantasy Island and Ricardo Montalban died.

Bustamonte is a legend. Like captain joe. But time has taken a toll. To do close to 30 years in this city is impressive and i give a ton of respect to him, but it is time to go on a siesta and enjoy retirement.

So what exactly did you want the officer to do? If the tow truck could not get the stuck vehicle out of the mud the onus is on the tow truck driver to call for additional resources. You have a long sordid history of ignoring parking laws and when an officer addresses it with you, you immediately start name dropping and it is very unbecoming. Just because you make a phone call (be it to a DC or anyone else)that does not give you a right to illegally park and you know it. I can honestly say that most of the officers in this department are tired of you and your dirty instigating ways. Maybe it is time you took up stamp collecting or got a girlfriend. By the way you could have always gotten out of your vehicle and pushed or pulled to assist the stuck truck. But then again maybe you might have gotten stuck yourself and somebody might have had to call a tow truck for you, maybe even that officer whose reputation you just tried to sully, who has done more for this city then you ever will. Yes, I know there is almost no chance you are going to post this.

This Bustamonte guy is a real piece of work. There is a Restaurant on the corner of Park St. and Hudson St. named Comerio Restaurant. He ate lunch for free at that location for almost 20 years. One day he ticketed the owners car in front of the restaurant. Owner sees officers name on ticket is Bustamonte he figure he wil talk to him and it should be no problem. Bustamonte comes in eats his free lunch again and when the owner ask if he can do anything about the ticket he just gave him an hour earlier Officer Bustamonte says he can't do nothing about! That was his last free meal!!!

Hey Kevin, look into the the incident from a few months back where his officer towed a car belonging to a bonds man who had his registered and licensed firearm secured in the vehicle from in front of the courthouse. The bonds man approached the officer as the car was on the hook and told him about the firearm. This officer ignored the bondsman and had the car towed with a firearm in the vehicle and never documented it. The tow company then located the firearm during an inventory check and called it in where it was correctly documented by a patrol officer.

Thank you for the info. It might be a good idea to put the officer in patrol where the real work needs to be done and see how long that lasts. I believe in seniority and officer's who have paid their dues, but we also need officers that are productive and especially responsive to the community. I have received several phone calls about this officer with specific incidents of disrespect.

He sleeps all the time when he works stop and shop. They have pics and video of him taking a cat nap in the flower dept. on several dates. Now busta goes to burger king for a free lunch. I dont blame busta though. Imagine the crap he has survived in this city and especially this titanic of a dept. time takes a toll in this line of work. So let him retire in dignity. I can a bunch of departmental burdens that are far worse and obtuse then busta.
